3:00 Tea-off
3:30 Ceremony
President Warren Harding, in an attempt to gain favor with the good people of America after the Teapot Dome Scandal rocked his Presidency, traveled the US to meet with the public face-to-face. He arrived in San Francisco, seemingly sickly, and died at the Palace Hotel shortly after. This year, the day of his death falls on a Saturday. The SFAS put a few things together: The Palace Hotel is known for its High Tea, and Harding's Presidential tenure was marred by the TEApot Dome Scandal. So in light of all of this, we will be hosting a High Tea at the Palace. The ceremony will include a remembrance of the scandal itself, where we encourage anyone and everyone to come as your favorite Teapot Dome participant, as well as many glasses raised to a President whose biggest contribution to our city was choosing it as the place for his final sleep.
Please note the earlier-than-usual starting time, and please also note that there will be a $20 admission ($15 tea-fee plus tips and taxes-there will be only one tab open as per the hotel). The admission should be given to a SFAS committee member. For those who desire, a complete High Tea will be offered, as well as libations from the historic bar.
The hotel has requested a head-count for the event, so we will have to close the list for this event on Thursday.
