Time to head to Black's Beach!
WARNING - There is no easy way to access the beach. You can either climb down (and back up) a very steep cliff, walk a mile in the sand, or hike down a long access road. Please see important additional information below to help you get to the beach.
What to bring:
- A towel and/or blanket
- Sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- Water (or other suitable beverage)
- Swim trunks (if you're modest)
- If you're so inclined, bring your own food because you can't buy it on the beach. I might recommend a small backpack to help you carry this stuff; leave the cooler at home, or in the car. There may be a snack bar available near parking areas.
There are no restrooms on the beach. (You'll have to go back to the parking area for port-a-potties.)
For those of you who don't already know, Black's Beach is famous for nude sunbathing, if you so choose. From what I've read, it IS legal unless someone files a specific complaint against you. (If this happens, and a policeman or ranger asks you to put your clothes on, you're supposed to comply for the remainder of the day.)
We are aiming to hang-out there between 11am and 2pm, but you can come and go at any time. We will be in the gay-ish, nude-ish part of the beach. That should be obvious, but bring your cell phone and call/TXT me if you get lost.
Alcohol and glass bottles are not allowed on the beach. (And yes, they do patrol it sometimes.)
If you want to try to carpool or caravan, meet at my place at 10:30am.
RSVP, if you please. But it's OK to show-up at the last minute unannounced.
Bring whomever.
HOW TO GET TO BLACK'S BEACH ON YOUR OWN (PLEASE read carefully!)
There are several main ways to get to the beach:
- Walk one mile through the sand from the north (via Torrey Pines State Beach, 450 PAID parking spaces)
- Walk one mile through the sand from the south (via La Jolla Shores, 350 FREE parking spaces)
- Hike directly up and down the cliff trails (via Torrey Pines Gliderport, free parking)
- If you can find neighborhood street parking, you may try hiking via the access road, which can be found here. (Google Map)
In any case, plan on between 15 to 45 minutes to get between your car and the beach itself.
PLEASE READ THESE ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS.
