An excellent beginning to the promised series of design discussions. I'd make good educational use of a copy of Bill Leddy's presentation!

The food was good and the conversations on the changing economic markets was encouraging. However, the presence of the UO Architecture faculty, the Architecture School Dean and the mission-driven design presentation by William Leddy was truly special and first class. Leddy's project variety illustrated the importance of the floor plan and how its' clear expression of integrity may be found in the elements of the envelop and their spatial arrangement. He also championed the huge importance in a post-carbon world of integrating a 'green-sustainability' design approach into all phases of design and construction and that the 2030 Challenge will demand extraordinary focus to achieve. It was a good night for architecture.

MISSION-DRIVEN DESIGN

William Leddy, FAIA

LEDDY MAYTUM STACY Architects, San Francisco

There has never been a more exciting time to be an architect.

Today we face the greatest challenge of our generation. Within the next ten to twenty years, we must radically change the way our society lives, works and builds to meet the pressing realities of global climate change and resource depletion. As architects, we have a critical role to play in this historic effort, utilizing the transformational power of design to help lead the way toward a sustainable and just future for all. William Leddy, FAIA, will present examples of his firm’s award-winning architecture in a wide variety of project types that address issues of environmental sustainability, social justice and cultural preservation.
