That is good that we are able to get the business loans and that opens up completely new opportunities.

My wife and I drove down Friday in the rain. She spent Saturday with her cousin and his wife while I took part in the ABFM. The day alternated between light rain, sort of gray and sunny and threatening to lightly rain. The car and people numbers were down compared to previous years, but it was still fun. There were onl seven Lotus cars, but there were mobs of MGs, a smattering of Jaguars, Rolls and Bentley cars, a bunch of old and new Minis and quite a few beautiful Austin- Healeys (including a couple of re-constructed/replica race cars) which was the featured marque. The track racing was fun to watch, but a little slippery in the rain. The slalom action was entertaining as was the 'off road' action offered by Land Rover... all in all it was an entertaining day.

While there were fewer Lotus cars at the All British Field Meet than we had hoped (probably due to all the rain) we enjoyed seeing some new faces and cars especially a Sunbeam Le Mans owned and restored by Jerry and Nancy Logan from Spokane. Greg Paris (and wife) and special guest, Mike Ostrov, were as usual super hosts for a fun evening gathering at Greg's place. Two attendees were Australians who showed us the Lotus Elite Series II car project (with rotisserie) which they had just picked up in Canada. They will pick up a second car in California and ship both back to Australia. Thanks, Greg! Bob Bentler

What: Portland All British Field Meet/SOVREN Vintage races & Greg Paris Elite Collection Tour and BBQ

Where: ABFM at Portland International Raceway and Greg Paris' home. More details later.

When: September 5th, 2009

Time: Cars need to be registered and on the field between 8 and 10AM. BBQ and tour at Greg's home will follow after Saturday afternoon's ABFM awards ceremony. Mark Gleason has done a lot of research planning a drive route and weekend activities regarding the Portland, Oregon ABFM Labor Day weekend event, Sept. 4th-7th.His greatly appreciated work was sent out in a previous message from our Google Group. He may be contacted

at mark.gleason@seattlehistory.org .Because of space constraints, his info posted on June 29th can be accessed on our Google Group home page: groups.google.com/group/elcc_org?hl=en

If you are not receiving Google Group messages, contact chair@elcc.org and I will add you to the member list. The Google Group is also an excellent venue for members to communicate and hook up for a caravan drive route there and/or back, as well an overnight stay location and/or an additional drive to the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon on Sunday. Their website is at: www.sprucegoose.org/

The ABFM show display area is on the grounds of Portland International Raceway, next to the pit area and right alongside the main straight. SOVREN will be running their Copper River Classic vintage races all weekend. Land Rover rides around the motocross track are also fun! Here is a link that gives more information on a very busy weekend, as well as an ABFM entry form and SOVREN info: www.abfm-pdx.com/2009/index.htm www.sovren.org/

In addition, we have been invited to a tour of Greg Paris' Elite collection and a club sponsored BBQ at his home. Greg is the editor of the Elite World Wide Registry, and a friend of noted Lotus expert and club member Mike Ostrov. It is a very special privilege to be extended this invitation. PLEASE, please note on your Socializr response EARLY whether you will be attending this after-show BBQ, as Greg would like some indication as how many people to expect and plan for. His only other request is that "no children" attend this event, due to safety concerns. Here is an article from one of his newsletters: www.knockoffspinnertool.com/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Knock-off_Greg_Paris_news_letter.307214932.pdf
