SPEAKER: RONA LAYTON

TOPIC: EMPLOYMENT LAW UPDATE

Rona Layton graduated from the University of Santa Clara, School of Law in 1985. She specializes in employment law for both business and nonprofit corporations. Her practice includes working with nonprofit and for-profit corporations on many issues, including incorporation, employee relations, personnel policies, wage and hour matters, discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination.

She represents clients before the Labor Commissioner, Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Workers' Compensation Appeals Board, California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and State and Federal Courts.

Ms. Layton has taught employment law classes for the San Jose State Professional Development Program, and frequently presents employment seminars before various organizations, including the EDD's Employers Advisory Councils around the Bay Area.

She also presents in-house employment law trainings for clients on topics such as sexual harassment, violence in the workplace, and disciplining employees. Ms. Layton is legal counsel to the Better Business Bureau of Santa Clara Valley, and is on the Board of Directors of the Santa Clara Methodist Retirement Foundation, the organization that owns and operates senior housing facilities in Santa Clara and Campbell. She actively participates with the Law Related Education Committee of the Santa Clara County Bar Association.

Reservations are requested by noon on Friday, March 19, 2010 by Socializr or on the chapter voice mail at 408-235-0828. Please remember that Vegetarian meals must be reserved and will not be offered to walk-in attendees or any reservations made after noon Monday, March 22, 2010. While walk-ins are expected, the Chicken Cannelloni may not be available to all walk-ins as the catering staff may not have enough of the menu selection on hand to accommodate a large number of walk-ins. In cases where the menu selection is not available, substitutions will be made by the catering staff.
