I had a good time, thought good 'Bob' thoughts when we rode past 'The Dizz', the old 'Dizzy Isseys', one of Bob's favorite places. Baltimore's pretty at night, nice crowd!

Great ride, lot of fun, very cool people. One comment on the route: passed through a few narrow areas that were difficult for such a large pack, stick to the big roads next time.

Great fun. But for us, it started too late (we both get up for work at 4:45a), so we bailed out after Druid Hill Park. Please keep us on the list for next year, though. Thanks, again, to all those directing traffic and sweeping.

Thanks for the ride! It was great. And thanks to Liz and the other sweepers who kept an eye on me.

Come ride with a tight pack of responsible cyclists. We'll tour Baltimore by moonlight and see the neon sites.

CHECK OUT THE ROUTE HERE

CUE SHEETS AVAILABLE AT THE RIDE!

RULES OF THE RIDE

1. Have a good time

2. Wear a helment and light up your bike front & back

3. Stay with the pack! Slow riders up front, Speeders are sweepers

4. DO NOT BLOCK TRAFFIC! We'll take one lane and let cars pass. Only designated ride leaders will close intersections if necessary.

5. Ride as safely to the right as possible - let faster traffic pass but watch out for parked car doors.

6. Any type of violence or aggressive behavior towards motorists or other cyclists will not be tolerated.

7. This ride will go through neighborhoods unaccustomed to bicycle traffic. Stay with the pack for safety and promote a positive portrayal of pedal-powered people.

This ride is not sponsored by any person or organization. By participating you assume all liability for yourself and your bike!

Sorry but I can't make it. Be careful out there. The streets of Baltimore at night are probably more dangerous than riding through Afganistan.

Harry - We'll have rider leaders AND sweepers. The goal is to be a social ride, keeping it tight, but fun with lots of breaks for beginners. I posted a cue sheet on Google docs and sent a message with the link. I'll bring some hard copies as well.
8/23/10 9:55 PM

Looking forward to it!!!!! Thanks for the invite

Last year it began in Mt Vernon, I think. For the ride uptown through Roland Pk I was sort of the unofficial ride leader, people were following me. We got messed up by Maryland General where there was some confusion on where to turn. After that the ride just fell to pieces. So, a ride leader would be good idea.

Thanks Nate. Is there an online turn-by-turn cue sheet, or will a paper one be available at the ride start? I can't tell whether Bikely.com offers one (although the comment from 'linda' is amusing).

Abe - We're in front of City Hall/War Memorial Ron - Your pace is fine for this ride. We're taking it easy! You can park off Holliday, Fallsway, Saratoga area Drew - 3' Law goes into effect Oct. 1. Greenspring in the county is a state road. Try SHA or their Office of Highway Safety
8/23/10 1:35 PM
Abe Yoffe (Yes)
The info above says it starts at war memorial plaza (that's in front of city hall, right?) but the map shows the start in front of the Washington Monument in Mt. Vernon. Which is correct?

Been in touch with HoCoCyclists about this ride. I'm a 13-15 mph road cyclist. 12ish on a hybrid which I would be riding that night. Any problem with that pace? Parking suggestions?

8:36 AM, heading south on Greenspring just south of the Quarry on my bike, some guy hollers 'Use the sidewalk!' as his SUV goes by. Who in Baltimore County (I live in the City) can I contact to ask for better advertisement of the 3-foot rule. Would a yardstick with a dry-erase sharpie taped to the end be considered rude? Looking forward to riding in a group!
