Good Music; and the Good Talk also, which was actually entertaining as well. Beethoven and Malcom Arnold were the big hits for me! I could have passed The Quiz, too! (o; I really appreciate the efforts of all who contirbuted to the success of this event. THANKS. P.S. It's awkward to give away tickets for free beer, and then run out of beer (if you don't happen to drink wine). - ralph

A very interesting concert. An eclectic choice of music mixed with an interesting discussion of the history of the instruments used. And they picked the perfect evening to have this concert, the weather was perfect!

Would you like to spend an evening under the stars, drinking wine, noshing on delicious food, listening to the beautiful sounds of The Windsome Woods Chamber Players, and then experiencing a guided tour of the stars by an expert star gazer? And would you like it if your children under 18 were not only welcome, but were admited for free?

Sounds like a perfect evening, no?

Join us under the stars in the beautiful Oakland Mills Courtyard for an evening of beautiful music, food, drink, and family time.

Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as "the music of friends." Join neighbors and friends as The Windsome Wood Chamber Players performs transcriptions of the classical music masters such as Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven as well as original works.

Tickets for adults are only $15 and can be purchased in advance at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/67720 or at The Other Barn in Oakland Mills.

Your ticket includes:

  • Admission to this gorgeous event
  • One free drink ticket for wine or beer
  • A free popsicle for kids (of all ages!)
  • A fabulous guided tour of the stars to follow the musical performance provided by expert star gazer Mark Kotche.

Also available to you at the event will be:

  • Delectable nibbles for purchase provided by the Second Chance Saloon
  • Tables and chairs for your comfort and dining pleasure

House opens 6:30 PM

Bar and food available - 6:30 - 9:00 PM
Performance - 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM with Intermission
Guided Star Gazing Tour - 9:00 - 9:45 PM

The Windsome Woods Chamber Player's music is both musically complex and listener-friendly, with the performance also incorporating the history, development, and literature of the individual instruments including solo selections. Here are some some beautiful samples of their talents:

Aubade (Paul De Wailly) 3:23

Finale: Presto (Beethoven) 3:49

Gavotte Celebre de G.B. Martini (trans. Milhaud) 2:13

These are the highly gifted artists who make up the trio:

KENDRA CRAVEN (flute) is currently a member of The United States Army Band (“Pershing’s Own”). She was selected to solo with The Army Band at the 2006 Music Educator’s National Conference in Salt Lake City, UT, and is a featured soloist on the Army Band 2008 CD, High Speed.

LANE SHIOJI (clarinet) has performed with many orchestras including the Waco Symphony Orchestra, East Texas Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Civic Orchestra, and the Irving Symphony Orchestra. Lane began his Army career with The United States Army Field Band and is currently a member of The United States Army Band (Pershing’s Own”). He has been a featured soloist with both of the Army’s premier bands as well as the El Paso Symphony. His most recent challenge came when he assumed role of coordinator for all of the bands and musical activities for the 2009 Inaugural Parade.

CYNDY BARTOLOMEO (oboe) was an oboist and the solo English horn player with the United States Army Field Band from 1976 to 2004. Chamber music has been her first love and she has over 35 years of experience in this specialty. While a member of the Field Band she founded and was the musical director for a woodwind quintet that performed recitals for many senior citizen communities for over 20 years. She is the founder of and musical coordinator for The Windsome Wood Chamber Players.

That's my sister's birthday, but she's in Kansas City; and I'm going to celebrate it the last weekend of July. So, yes, Nate and I will be there. I will check with some friends and let you know. Can I avoid administrative costs by getting tickets from you? (I'm not cheap, just thrifty.)
