Now that the first official Pac-12 season is rolling, the Bears will face a new Pac-12 foe this Saturday: the Utes. Your guess is as good as ours what that is, so... we asked around campus, "What exactly is a 'Ute'?" Here are the top four responses:
- A mythical rainbow-colored donkey with wings of fire
- A "youth," as pronounced by Joe Pesci in "My Cousin Vinny"
- A strange looking Australian mashup of a pick-up truck and car
- A terrible mispronunciation of the American Indian tribe for which the state of Utah is named
The last time the Bears played the Utes, they were beaten in the Poinsettia Bowl. One word... Revenge! Now without Urban Meyer, the Utes are going through a Pac-12 conference (0-3) in a much different manner than they did for so many years in the Mountain West. Whether or not the Bears win this weekend is largely dependent on YOU showing up at Player's sports bar this weekend. Don't be a fair weather fan--"rain or shine," come out from under your rock to watch a Bears victory!
Join us on Saturday, October 22nd as the Golden Bears of California host the Utes of Utah at AT&T Park. Your host and club president, Celia Garcia '84, and board member, Paul Fishbein '00, will welcome you to our 2011-2012 venue, Players Sports Bar, which is centrally located just off of I-805 on Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
In order to reserve the right number of tables we need an accurate count of who will be attending. Please RSVP using this online invitation to let us know that you'll be attending.
Don your blue and gold and bring your family and friends out to Players to watch this exciting game with other Golden Bear fans. Food, fun, and football...a good time every time!
Go Bears! Beat the Utes!
