And damn it feels good to be a gangster. Or a member of a winning softball team, for that matter. I hope everyone who came to last Friday's game enjoyed being a part of our all-around flaying of Baylor. The final score, for those who lost track, was 20-4. Oh, and we won Last Team Standing again.
This coming Saturday is our first "main-event" of the summer, a doubleheader featuring one of our biggest rivals (West Virginia) and another Big East school who we ought to handle with relative ease (Rutgers). These Saturday double-headers are always fun, and we'll have some time in between games to enjoy some burgers, dogs, and beer. The first game starts at 11:00 am, so please try to be at the field by 10:30 am.
We'll take a bit of a break while WVU and Rutgers play each other, and then get our second game underway at approximately 2:00 pm.
There's only one catch. We're playing these games at NASA's Goddard complex out in Greenbelt. It's familiar territory for anyone who's been to the tournament in the last three years, but it does still demand a bit more organization than a typical game down on the Mall. I'd like to try to get as many people as possible out to the fields, so we'll work on carpooling. When you reply to this invitation, please indicate whether you plan to drive or bum a ride. We'll get everyone taken care of.
Directions to the field are as follows:
"To get to the GSPSA Softball Fields from the Capital Beltway, take the beltway to exit 22, the Baltimore-Washington Parkway or 295. Take the north exit towards signs that say NASA and/or Baltimore. Continue on this road for about 2 miles until you come to the exit for Powder Mill Rd. Take a right at the stop sign and then take an immediate right in about 50 yards onto Soil Conservation Rd (there's a light at the intersection). Drive about 1.5 miles until you come to Beaver Dam Rd. Take a left and drive about 1 mile. The fields are on the right hand side with the entrance at the far end of the fields."
I didn't write that, so please excuse any grammatical errors. It's fairly easy, though; you're just looking to take 295-N to the Powder Mill Road exit. Feel free to email or call me with any questions. As always, if weather rears its ugly head, I'll be in touch.
Here is a map of the grounds. We're playing on Field 3, so it'll be the farthest from the parking lot.
Despite the potential hurdles involved in making your way to the fields, I'm really hoping we get a good turnout. Double-headers are typically a good opportunity for me to spread around the playing time, so consider that your inducement. RSVP here so I can plan out 14 innings worth of at bats and defensive replacements, por favor.
Thanks, and...
