When I paste a URL to Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB into my invitation, the web site adds spaces at random. So for example, when I add
www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1000654-all_the_kings_men/ it gets changed to this (note the space between /m/10 and 006...) www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10 00654-all_the_kings_men/ I can forcibly link the URL by 1) highlighting the text, 2) clicking the link button, 3) pasting the correct URL, and then repeating 8 times (4 movies, 2 links per movie), but that is a major pain, especially since the problem can't conceivably be called a feature -- it's a bug, pure & simple. Anybody have a good fix? |

Hi Marty,
I am able to add that link without any issues to my event page. Perhaps you're copying and pasting the link from some site that added a space or newline to the link. Try copying and pasting the complete link from this forum post. Boris |

Hi Marty,
I'm having some trouble reproducing the problem you described. When I paste your rotten tomatoes link into a test invite, it goes in without spaces. Can you give me some details about your Operating System and browser: Operating System (PC, Mac, Linux): OS Version: Browser: Browser Version: Thanks, Larry |

Wow! Custom assistance! Thanks.
I use Firefox 3 on Windows XP, although I tried the same links using Opera, figuring that would confirm for sure if it were a browser issue. I even tried manually deleting the spaces, then resaving the invitation, and the spaces just get added again. Let me scrub the personal details and I'll post the invite on this thread verbatim and you can paste that into your own invitation and see what happens. Thanks for the replies. I feel good that I've gotten 2 professional responses already! |

Still broken. I just created a public event that I can invite you to if you want to see it. I pasted the following text in verbatim. (Will try IE6 next to see if that makes a difference):
In October we watched THE FIREMEN'S BALL, a surprisingly delightful movie from the Czech New Wave, which one generally doesn't associate with 'comedy.' It's hard to see today why it was banned by paranoid Soviets, but I suppose the incompetent and sticky-fingered authority figures had something to do with it. For November 15 we're looking at 4 movies that XXXX culled from the list that seemed to click with the political season. Write your vote in the comments section, and be sure to say whether you've seen any of these movies. All the King's Men www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1000654-all_the_kings_men/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0041113/ Crime and Punishment www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1042238-crime_and_punishment/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0132068/ Family Fundamentals www.rottentomatoes.com/m/family_fundamentals/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0303334/ Ordet www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ordet/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0048452/ --------------------- There are probably some great movies that none of us have seen yet. We compiled a list of the highest-rated movies from reputable critics and books. Each month we highlight 4 movies from that list and vote on which one we feel like watching. Join us the third Saturday of the month at 7:00 for a movie, snacks, and conversation. To view the list, visit www.xxxxxxxx.xxx, click the 'My List' button, and log in as though xxxxx xxx x xxxx. Feel free to bring a friend. --------------------- |

One last bit of debug info: it worked fine in IE6, but failed in Firefox 3.03. When I look at the post vars using firebug, I see a + where the spaces are appearing
...http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/10+00654-all_the_kings_me... so it's probably happening client-side. |

Was that text and/or links originally formatted in a word document by any chance? |

| ONE more thing... looks like all the spaces appear exactly 27 characters after the . Strange. |

| The text did not come from word. It did come from a firebug plugin called Copy All Urls, but has been copied and pasted into a plain text editor since then. |

Is there anything unusual about the character encoding of the text editor and/or Copy All Urls?
If you use plain ascii text across the board, those URLs will render as links without issue. |

I also noticed the same problem when I pasted the following URL in the Description field:
www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/05/28/MNLE17S12M.DTL which after saving then appeared as: www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin /article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/05/28/MNLE17S12 M.DTL with a space after 'cgi-bin' and 'MNLE17S12'. URL is copied from the browser's address field when viewing the page. This does not happen when: 1) Pasting the URL at the very end of the Description field on its own line 2) Including the URL with a line break before it 3) Highlighting the URL text and using the Link button to set the 'Link URL' with the web address It seems the problem may or may not appear depending where the URL appears on the current line as I get different results when appending the URL at the end of various paragraphs with different lengths. Using Safari 3.2.3 on Mac 10.5.7. |

| I probably started another thread. What I discovered is that if there was a space at the beginning of the URL, it would break. But if the URL was at the beginning of a line, it was okay (as you also point out). |
