Hi John, gmail import works fine, just confirmed. Try using just your username instead of the full @gmail.com email. Tue 6/30/09

Just tried it again, and double-checked that it was the correct password... no luck :( Tue 6/30/09

Just tested again and confirmed working with two different gmail accounts.

Are you sure you're using just your gmail username, not your full email?

John,

It's definitely working.

when you say it's broken, what do you mean? are you getting some sort of error message? are you able to see the list of addresses to import?

The list of addresses is unchecked by default, so perhaps you need to click on 'check all' before importing.

Hi John,

The issue may be that your password contains some unsupported special characters.

An alternative way to import your gmail contacts is to export them to CSV in gmail and them import into Socializr. In order to export to CSV, do the following:

1) log in to gmail, and click on contacts
2) click on the 'export' link in the upper right hand corner and select the first export option.
3) go to the import section on Socializr and select import to CSV file and follow the instruction to import your contacts.

I hope that solves your issue for now and we'll be looking into the password special character issue.

I would love to help you solve the gmail issue directly, but unfortunately cannot do so unless I can actually test your specific username/password (which of course I wouldn't expect from you). I've now tested several gmail accounts with alphanumeric passwords that all work as expected.

I would suggest you try to change your gmail password and try it again if you need to. Check and double check that your username and password are correct and case-sensitivity is preserved. However, the CSV import should work for you.

I figured out the cause of the bug.

On a whim, I turned off 'always use https' in my gmail settings, and tried the import again. Now it's working.

Let me know if you want any more info.

Ah, ok. Yea that's interesting, thanks for reporting. We'll have to look into that as a blocker for gmail import. Tue 6/30/09
