I just received spam on my phone for the first time ever, just days after entering my text messaging info into my personal profile. I looked into my profile and there was a checkmarked box to receive mobile shout-outs from friends. This must be a new feature because I clearly recall unchecking all boxes related to text messaging when I created my profile. Apparently someone has hacked the system or figured out how to abuse it, because I have not designated anyone as a 'friend' on socializr.
The reason I believe the spammer got to me thru socializr is that I have not entered my mobile number and provider for text messaging purposes at any other website before -- out of fear of getting spammed. It's also possible that socializr uses a third party service to do its text alerts and that service got hacked or sold my number to a spammer. Whatever is the case, I'm peeved because I get charged something like $0.15 per message and there's no possible way to stop incoming messages without canceling my texting account altogether. Text of the spam follows... From: 3701 Osborn@poleca.net / BNF / Get the perfect g.i.f.t goto: www .scancefree.cn |

Hi Jason,
I can assure you this message did not originate from our network and that your information is secure. From the look of the message below, this message came via the Internet from osborn@poleca.net. (Possibly forged.) Had the message originated from Socializr, it would be from mobile@mail.socializr.com. Unfortunately, mobile providers haven't made much progress in helping consumers block these sort of messages. Spammers have developed very sophisticated ways of avoiding anti-spam technology. If you continue to have this issue, I suggest you call your mobile provider and request they block all SMS messages to your phone Tim. |

Thanks for the reply. Good to know that all mobile shout outs come with a socializr return address. I guess it's just a weird coincidence that I got mobile spammed so soon after entering my stats here.
