I just received my first socializr invite. I would never have known about it, had my friend not *also* sent me an email saying that there would be an invite. You may want to re-examine how your email chain plays with challenge/response systems.
I have a challenge/response anti-spam system for my email (spamarrest). I know they're annoying, but I get about one junk message/minute, so I *have* to use it. Normally, it's not a problem because either people who send me email authorize themselves, because they send me a message, or I manually register for something online, where I expect an email, and then go to the spamarrest admin section and look for the email in the unverified folder. Here's the problem with socializr: I had no idea someone had used it to invite me. So I would never have thought to go into the admin section to look for the mail in my unverified folder. Yet socializr uses the following from field for the email: From: John Smith <mail@mail.socializr.com> Except that's not John Smith's address. So he'll never receive the autoresponse email. Anyway, using that format of email address is likely to confuse people, since that address could get added to an address book. The invite helpfully says 'To ensure you receive invitations, add mail@mail.socializr.com to your address book.' But how would I know to do that if I've never received the email? Moreover, when spamarrest sends the challenge email to mail@mail.socializr.com, the respose reads: ---- From: Socializr Autoresponder <dontreply@mail.socializr.com> ... You are writing to an email address that does not accept incoming mail ( hey@mail.socializr.com ). Perhaps you've replied to a notification sent from Socializr. ... ---- That's not right either - the challenge email didn't go to hey@; it went to mail@. My suggestion would be that whatever address emails come from needs to be able to receive replies. Why not just make them come from the person that sent the invite, so they receive any replies? -Antun |
